A time-loop political thriller, Maanadu was a colossal hit, praised for its intelligent script and Simbu’s restrained, mature performance as a man trying to prevent an assassination. It proved that a Simbu film could succeed on content, not just star power. He followed this up with Pathu Thala (2023), a stylish gangster drama where his silent, menacing avatar won praise.
