Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a base, while vinegar (acetic acid) is an acid. When you mix them, they react to produce carbon dioxide gas—those fun bubbles you watched in science class. In your drain, those bubbles agitate the sludge, scum, and hair. They physically break up the clog without melting your PVC pipes or killing the good bacteria in your septic tank.

This prevents the slow build-up of odors and slime before it becomes a problem.
