The screen flickered. The text on the setup wizard didn't change to the usual "Where do you want to install Windows?" prompt. Instead, the blue background deepened, turning a shade of indigo that felt infinitely deep.

A text bubble appeared in the corner of the setup wizard, styled like an old Windows Help assistant, but with a pixelated, corrupted eye icon.

"This isn't real," Mark said, his voice shaking. He looked around the room. The shadows cast by the monitor were no longer following the light source. They were stretching toward him, pixelating at the edges.

Mark sat forward, the plastic of his chair creaking. He tapped the screen.
