The college opened its doors on July 14, 1873, in a converted teak-wood storehouse. There were 14 students. One of them, a cobbler’s son named K. T. Achuthan, would go on to draft key portions of the Cochin State Constitution.

“We are not a brand,” says current Principal Dr. Aisha Kurup, herself a 1984 scholarship alumna. “We are a debt. And a debt, unlike a donation, never forgets to whom it belongs.”
