Press and hold the until the startup options window appears.

Press Command (⌘) + D on your keyboard to start the diagnostics. For Intel-based Macs: Shut down your Mac. Turn it on and immediately press and hold the D key.

If you have multiple sticks of RAM, try running the diagnostic with only one stick installed at a time. This helps you identify exactly which stick is broken so you can replace it.
