Think of Ukan as "ownership" and Eduki as "holding onto something."

If you are studying in the Basque Country, you might hear eduki used where you expect ukan . In the West (Biscay), eduki is sometimes used for standard possession ( etxea edukit - I have the house), but in standard Batua and the East, the distinction is stricter.
