🔹 Standard network adapters handle hardware connections (like Wi-Fi or Ethernet). TAP drivers handle software-level connections. When you connect to a VPN, the software "taps" into your network stream, encrypts the data, and sends it through this virtual adapter.
Sometimes the driver is simply disabled. You can find it in Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections . Right-click the TAP adapter and select Enable . tap windows
