The film solidified the Disney Renaissance trend of utilizing separate actors for speaking and singing when the speaking actor lacked the necessary vocal range for Broadway-style scores. While Gibson sang for himself, the separation of Bedard and Kuhn proved highly effective, allowing the character to have both a grounded speaking voice and a soaring singing voice.
