Ozone Imager V2 !!top!! -
We present the (OIv2), a compact, wide-field-of-view multi-spectral radiometer designed for high-spatial-resolution retrieval of total column ozone (TCO). Unlike low-Earth-orbit sounders with daily global coverage but coarse resolution (~50 km), OIv2 achieves 1.5 km nadir resolution from a 550 km sun-synchronous orbit by employing a 2048×2048 CMOS detector and six narrowband filters (305, 312, 317, 325, 332, and 360 nm). The instrument leverages a novel on-board calibration system using a solar diffuser and a temperature-stabilized LED reference. Validation against the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and ground-based Dobson spectrophotometers shows a root-mean-square error of 2.8% for TCO, with spatial heterogeneity resolved down to urban scales. OIv2 enables tracking of ozone transport from industrial plumes, wildfire-induced ozone depletion events, and small-scale dynamical features in the Brewer-Dobson circulation.
