This paper examines the socio-cultural semantics of the Indonesian slang term “bocil SMP” (Middle School Little Kid). While originally a neutral descriptor for early adolescents, the term has morphed into a pejorative label within Indonesian digital spaces to denote immaturity, cringe-worthy behavior, and performative aggression. By analyzing usage patterns on social media platforms (TikTok, Twitter/X), this study explores how the term functions as a mechanism of social othering, how it reflects intergenerational conflict between late Gen Z and Gen Alpha, and what it reveals about the pressures of modern Indonesian adolescence.
