Heparin Hyperkalemia

While heparin is best known for its anticoagulant properties, a less recognized but significant adverse effect is its ability to cause (elevated serum potassium). This occurs in 5-10% of patients receiving therapeutic doses of unfractionated heparin (UFH) or low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), though it is often mild and asymptomatic.
