As globalization increases, the demand for rapid English-to-Tamil translation has surged. Google Translate (GT) remains the most accessible Neural Machine Translation (NMT) tool for this purpose. This paper evaluates GT’s performance in translating English to Tamil across three domains: syntax, lexical semantics, and cultural context. Findings indicate that while GT performs adequately for basic, factual sentences, it struggles significantly with Tamil’s agglutinative morphology, honorifics, and proverbs.
