Hashima Island, commonly known as Gunkanjima or Battleship Island due to its unique silhouette, was a Japanese coal mining facility located off the coast of Nagasaki. During the Japanese occupation of Korea, hundreds of Koreans were conscripted and sent to the island to work in sub-human conditions.
