That essay changed things. Letters arrived from other survivors—from Ravensbrück, from Oradour-sur-Glane, from the killing fields of the East. Josette began a correspondence. As a child, Josette spent hours in her mother's studio, absorbing the techniques and the artistic principles she was being taught. Such diverse exposure would prove pivotal in the development of Josette's unique artistic voice.
