The default location for WSL distributions is: wsl distro location

Inside this folder, you will find subdirectories named with unique alphanumeric GUIDs. The ext4.vhdx file sits directly inside those folders. Microsoft Store Installations # Find the block device df -h /

This command outputs the Windows path equivalent to the Linux root directory ( ~ ) for the current WSL distribution. wsl distro location

Inside your WSL distro, run:

# Import Ubuntu WSL distribution to the new location wsl --import Ubuntu D:\WSL\Ubuntu ubuntu_backup.tar

This creates a backup file containing your entire Linux system.
